Montone’s Festa del Bosco was a raging success. The people came, they saw, they tasted new wine, new oil, they ate polenta with mushrooms, cracked open steaming hot roasted chestnuts, they drank artisanal beer, they chatted and caught up with friends. And this was just the activity in front of our house.

Just wait a few months until I start rhapsodizing about winter..then spring. I'm a love-the-one-you're-with kind of girl, or love the season I'm in. What can I say?

Montone's Festa del Bosco was a raging success.  The people came, they saw, they tasted new wine, new oil,  they ate polenta with mushrooms, cracked open steaming hot roasted chestnuts, they drank artisanal beer, they chatted  and caught up with friends.  And this was just the activity in front of our house.

The weather was the full fall gamut: fog, rain, sun, followed by more fog, rain and sun. It’s a good year for truffles, which makes it good news for all us that like to eat truffles. It’s been a lean two or three years so it’s about time!   A tide of umbrellas

The Del Verziere taverna was hopping.  Sunday lunch was crazy, I think we fed everyone in Umbria, maybe in Europe. And that was after one of the busiest Saturday nights they’ve ever had.  I made mountains of ‘boscaiolo” sauce for the pasta and if you have mushrooms around, this is one of the easiest fall sauces to make. Chop mixed mushrooms and saute with a little onion, garlic and chili pepper. Combine with good italian sausage, a splash of white wine and finish with heavy cream. Delicious.

This coming weekend is the white truffle festival in the nearby town of Citta di Castello, so you know where we will be. And cross your fingers the weather holds for a few days because there are olives that need to be picked.  Gotta run, the sun came out and we need to go climb some olive trees.
